Ian Mackinnon

Ian Mackinnon Is a co-founder of Mackinnon & Saunders, an award-winning independent production company based in the North West of England, a key creative regional hub of the animation industry. Mackinnon & Saunders produces high quality stop motion and digital animation and puppets for a huge variety of commercials, TV series, short films, specials and feature films.  The company also develops IP.

With over 30 years’ experience in the animation industry, the company’s credits include Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks!, Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie, Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr Fox, Postman Pat, Clangers, Raa Raa the Noisy Lion, Bob the Builder and Twirlywoos.  The company’s impressive list of clients and collaborators around the world includes Tim Burton, Wes Anderson, Warner Bros., NBCUniversal/DreamWorks, Disney, Passion Pictures, Blink and Laika Studios.  Characters made in the M&S workshop feature in the block-busting MoMA World of Tim Burton exhibition, which has been touring international arts venues since 2009.

Ian Mackinnon and Peter Saunders were honoured with an ASIFA Hollywood Ub Iwerks Award, recognising their technical achievements in puppet making which had a significant impact on the art of animation.  In 2015 Ian was made an Honorary Doctor of Arts by Staffordshire University and he is proud to be a Patron of St Rocco’s Hospice in Cheshire.
