Legendary sci-ri franchise gains new distribution life!

Leading kids’ entertainment specialist CAKE and award-winning entertainment studio World Events Productions (WEP) have announced a major international distribution partnership on legendary sci-fi franchise Voltron, a heritage brand spanning over 40 years.
The defining partnership will see CAKE take on global distribution of the iconic animation library consisting of 280 episodes across multiple hit iterations and introducing one of the most celebrated action-adventure libraries in television history to a new generation of viewers.
Originally adapted by WEP from the Japanese anime Beast King GoLion, the landmark 1984 series Voltron: Defender of the Universe follows five young space explorer pilots, who pilot mechanical lion robots that combine into a mighty warrior. The catalogue includes Voltron: Golion (52 x 24’), Voltron: Dairugger XV (52 x 24’), award-winning CGI Voltron: The Third Dimension (26 x 24’), and the 2011 follow-up series Voltron Force (26 x 24’), which successfully debuted on Nicktoons.
Celebrated for its themes of teamwork and courage, Voltron launched as the top-rated syndicated children’s show of its time. Four decades later, the property continues to thrive as a pop-culture phenomenon that captivates a passionate, cross-generational global audience, generating over 73 million social media mentions in 2025 alone. That momentum is building further, with the highly anticipated live-action Voltron feature film from Amazon/MGM, scheduled for release in Spring 2027 and featuring an all-star ensemble cast including Henry Cavill, Sterling K. Brown, Danniel Quinn-Toye, Rita Ora, and Samson Kayo. Hasbro has signed on to do toys, with other exciting licensing partnerships in the works.
“Voltron was one of my favourite shows growing up. I can still remember watching it as a kid, those lions forming together into something unstoppable. The fact that it’s still generating this kind of passion and cultural conversation forty years on tells you everything about the strength of this franchise. In a world where anime has never been more mainstream, Voltron was there at the beginning, and that heritage matters. We’re proud to be bringing this catalogue to a new generation of fans around the world.”
Ed Galton, CEO at CAKE
“Voltron has captivated audiences around the world for four decades, and I’m thrilled to partner with CAKE to bring the classic show to international broadcasters and platforms. CAKE’s relationships across the kids’ and family space are second to none, and we couldn’t ask for a better partner to introduce Voltron to a new generation of fans globally — especially with the Amazon live-action feature on the horizon.”
