It’s time once again to elect new representatives to the two councils which decide the initiatives and direction for our organisation. We need Councils in place by April, so if you want to be at the centre of policy making for our industry, please do step forward now.

There are separate councils for the animation membership and facilities/service provider membership. Each council consists of approximately 10 people who are nominated and elected by the member companies from the relevant section.

Each term of office is two years and council representatives may serve two terms before seeking re-election or standing down. At each election at least half the Council seats are subject to a vote..

Animation Council

The following representatives will stay on the Council for their second term:

  • Jamie Badminton (Co-founder Karrot Animation)
  • Mark Taylor (MD, A Productions)

Dave Sproxton and Julie Lockhart have decided to step down and we thank them for their service to the Council

This means that there are 8 seats available at this election.

We have already received nominations for the following who will be on the ballot paper:

  • Phil Dobree (CEO, Jellyfish Pictures)
  • Ruth Fielding (Joint MD, Lupus Films)
  • Ed Galton ( MD, Cake Entertainment)
  • Oli Hyatt (MD, BlueZoo)
  • Ian Mackinnon (Co-founder, Mackinnon and Saunders)
  • Erica Darby (Co-owner Spider-eye)
  • Ian Liddell (CEO, Studio Liddell)
  • Kerry Lock (FD, Aardman Animations)

Additional nominations should be sent by 11th March to neil@ukscreenalliance.co.uk

  • Claire McGrane (Dir. Of Ops. Company 3)
  • Cara Sheppard (MD, Warner Bros. De Lane Lea)
  • Mike Kelt ( MD, Artem)
  • Darren Woolfson (Dir of Creative Services Technology, Pinewood Studios)

JP Dash and Milly Ali will step down and we thank them for their service to the Council

This means that there are 5 seats available.

We have already received nominations for the following who will be on the ballot paper:

  • Will Cohen (CEO, Milk VFX)
  • Rich Moss (MD, Gorilla Group)
  • Sean Costelloe (MD, The Mill (London))

Additional nominations should be sent by 11th March to neil@ukscreenalliance.co.uk

Eligibility:
There can only be one nominee on the ballot paper per member company. Individuals may nominate themselves or any number of suitably senior representatives from their own company; a subsidiary company; another member company; or another relevant organisation or individual (not eligible for membership).  We ask that you first obtain prior consent from the individuals concerned before submitting a nomination on their behalf. Representatives will be elected on their individual merits, however there is an implicit recognition of their company and status.

We want our Councils to be diverse and inclusive, so we are encouraging nominations from women and people of colour. We also want to see our regional members represented.

The Commitment:

Council Representatives are appointed for a two-year term of office and are expected to attend the majority of the council meetings which run for 2 hours around 4 times a year. If representatives miss 3 consecutive meetings they must stand down. Attendance can be by phone and the sending of proxy substitutes is permitted. Outside these meetings we encourage Council members to lend their support on an ad-hoc basis to various initiatives and issues as and when appropriate in relation to their specific areas of interest and expertise.

The Process:

The window for nominations is open from now until 6pm on 11th March.

Any existing Council members who have already served two terms and whose seats are due for election, are also required to submit nomination forms, if they wish to be included in the vote.

If there are fewer nominations than available seats, the nominees will automatically be elected without a vote. If there are more nominations than seats available, voting will take place between 16th and 27th March

Each company has one vote and can only vote in the either the Animation UK Council election or the UK Screen Facilities Council election. Votes will be cast by the primary representative from each member company. The election process is confidential and will be overseen by our auditors, Ecovis.

We expect to announce the results by 30th March.

The first new Facilities Council will be on 31st March and first new Animation Council is on 28th April.

In addition to elected representatives, the new Councils will have the option to co-opt extra representatives to ensure that we have balanced Councils which reflects the range of interests of our membership, companies of different size, the regions and nations and are fully inclusive.

Once the new councils have been elected, each council will put forward their selected representatives for the governing board of directors of the UK Screen Alliance. The first new board meeting will be on 19th May.
