At the Encounters Film Festival this year, Compass Presents will be holding an immersive screening of Arcadia at Boiling Wells amphitheatre, an experimental, visceral archive experience scored by Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Will Gregory (Goldfrapp).
The Arnolfini centre will be hosting a unique visual and musical event on Thursday 27 September with a performance from Punjabtronix. Cutting edge electronica meets Punjabi folk — technology meets tradition, an exciting fusion from DJ Swami and Jon Minton.The duo have already toured the US and UK at other festivals such as SXSW and is not to be missed at Encounters.
On Saturday 30th September, you can catch a screening of eight episodes of Hey Duggee! followed by a Q&A with Director and creator, Grant Orchard. Scratch n Sniff is bringing new life to the feature debut of Aardman’s most well-loved characters Wallace & Gromit. Based on the cinema technology introduced in the late 1970s, audiences will be given a special card containing ten weird and wonderful odours that link to scenes within Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
Encounters are excited to bring to audiences more 360 immersive films and Holotronica returns with another engaging programme of 3D events. The BBC will be taking over the Arnolfini library with the University of York’s DC labs over the festival week with their Hackathon event, an object based media workshop to create adaptive short stories. The workshop will have a small select group of people working together to plan, shoot, edit and experience creating adaptive media; using a pioneering new object based media (OBM) tool called StoryKit.
From over 3,400 submissions this year to Encounters’ competition programme, 212 were selected to screen at the festival this year, programmed into themes including ‘Late Lounge: Fright Night’ to ‘Secrets and Lies’, ‘Animal Magic’ and ‘Other Worlds’. Encounters’ Teen and Deaf programmes this year titled: ‘We See You’ and ‘Sister Act’ focus on life experiences through the eyes of women of all ages.
