Escape Studios launches learning opportunities in data science

Industry News  |  01 September 2022

Escape Studios, the UK’s premiere VFX, animation and game art training and teaching institution, is launching a new short course in Data Visualisation that will be delivered live online from October and conclude with an in-person hackathon at its London campus.

The 12-week course will provide learners with an overview of data visualisation, covering the graphic representation of data and the ability to capture overall trends and patterns that inform real-time decision making. Participants will learn how to use Power BI, one of the world’s leading interactive data visualisation software platforms, powered by Microsoft.

The course is designed to support the demands required for new roles within the creative economy, providing learners with access to real-time data and featuring teaching from experienced professionals. Students will be equipped with skills for these emerging roles that require familiarity with tools and technologies when working with data.

The course leader is Dr Laura Marulanda-Carter, Head of Tech & Data Hub at Escape Studios. Prior to joining Escape Studios, Laura completed her PhD at Loughborough University, where she explored human-computer interaction in public sector organisations.

I am thrilled to launch our first data science programme at Escape Studios, which will conclude with an exciting hackathon at our London campus to accelerate creativity, technology and innovation.

We’ve listened to our partners and they’re calling for new skills in data, the tools used for real-time decision-making and delivering visuals, so we hope this brand-new course will be a great benefit to the creative industry.

Dr Laura Marulanda-Carter

The course is aimed at working professionals, freelancers and career changers. Course content will be delivered through e-learning and live online masterclasses throughout the 12 weeks, with a final hackathon session held face-to-face at Escape Studios’ Central London campus.

Learners can register for the Data Visualisation programme online.
