Pearson seeking new members for T Level Employer Validation Panel

Industry News  |  02 August 2023

Pearson, the education publishing and assessment service, will be delivering T Level qualifications and is seeking members for its validation panel to support the new programmes.

T Levels are new two-year, Level 3 study programmes that will offer an attractive alternative to A Levels. Taken after GCSEs, one T Level is equivalent to three A Levels. Combining classroom theory, practical learning and a minimum 315 hours of industry placement with an employer, the programme will ensure students have real experience of the workplace.

The T Level programmes are developed in collaboration with employers, so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work. They provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door to highly skilled employment, or higher-level study including university. To be awarded a T level, the student must complete the core and one occupational specialism.

Pearson has taken over from NCFE in the role of awarding body for the Media, Broadcast and Production T Level, which will begin teaching from September 2024.

Media, Broadcast and Production T Level

During the two-year programme, students will learn the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of media, broadcast and production occupations.

The Technical Qualification is the main classroom-based element of the T Level and students will learn from a curriculum that has been shaped by industry experts. Students will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including the creative economy; the individual in the creative industries; cultural context and vocabulary; audience and consumer needs; legal and regulatory requirements; professional standards and conduct in the workplace; equality, diversity and inclusion requirements; research skills; project methodology and administration; and continued professional development.

In addition to the core content, each student will also complete at least one module of occupation-specific content. The specialisms available in the Media, Broadcast and Production T Level are Events and Venues Technician, Content Creation and Production, and Creative Media Technician.

By learning the core knowledge that underpins each industry, and then developing occupationally specific skills, this will allow students to enter skilled employment within a specific occupation.

Employer Validation Panel

Pearson are seeking employers and industry experts to join their Employer Validation Panel (EVP) for the above T level. The EVP represents the industry sector for which the T Level serves, and panel members are experts in their field.

The panel will support Pearson in the development of the qualification and throughout the life of the qualification. It will review content to ensure it is current and up to date; ensure the scenario and context of the assessment is appropriate; ensure the technical terms and language is correct; and provide expertise on industry standards and protocols.

If you would like to find out more, discuss the commitment involved, or how involvement will support you or your team’s professional development, Pearson would love to hear from you. Please email the dedicated Stakeholder Engagement Manager, Andrew Hambelton, for further discussion.
