The VFX studio finds a new home in Finzels Reach.

After bursting onto the Bristol VFX scene in 2019, Primary Visual Effects is expanding to a new studio space in Finzels Reach, Bristol. Primary Visual Effects has gone from strength to strength, completing a variety of projects with Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ in recent years.

The new studio will be right in the heart of Bristol’s growing media hub, neighbouring Channel 4 and BBC, as well as many of Bristol’s independent production companies. The move will be a cause of celebration for Primary VFX as it will mark a period of expansion for the company.

[We hope that] the move will increase our ability to land even bigger projects and continue our mission to bring prestige VFX work to Bristol. The city’s High-End film and TV scene is expanding rapidly and we’re proud to be an accessible and local visual effects provider for these productions.

As well as expanding the horizons of the studio, the move will also ensure an upgrade in resources and equipment. This includes the studio being built from the ground up for a high TPN security rating and specialised for hybrid working. The new studio will also feature a custom-built screening room for the demands of their high-end clients.

Primary VFX will also be the new neighbours of Gorilla Post-Production, who recently opened their new Bristol office downstairs. The new studio also signals that new opportunities are still emerging in Bristol, as the film industry in the city continues to boom with the recent expansion of Bottleyard Studios.

Jem Grimshaw, Director and CG Supervisor, claims the visual effects landscape is changing.

We’ve found that our clients are looking away from the bigger VFX studios in London and are now looking for more boutique services outside of the capital. We’re proud we can provide a nimble and light-weight service, whilst being committed to giving high-quality visual effects for smaller productions in the heart of Bristol.
