With just two days to go, The Media Production & Technology Show  (MPTS) has confirmed over 130 live sessions, 250 hours of FREE content across 8 theatres, and a fantastic line-up of 230 speakers.

The UK’s largest event for media and broadcast production and technology will have this year a new dedicated technology theatre with seminars hosted by leading tech experts across broadcast and media to showcase the latest data, technical knowledge and learnings for future projects. Some of the topics that will be discussed include future tech investment, cloud tech, AI/machine learning, 5G, next gen supply chain and HDR production.

The seminar programme will open on the 11th May with a conversation between Sinead Greenaway, Broadcaster & End User Technology – BBC, and Carrie Wootten, Managing Director – Rise. They will be discussing technology changes, Sinead’s role at the BBC and how we need to encourage more women to work in the broadcast technology sector.

TyrellCloud sponsors the seminar Cloud Economics – what’s the rush and what’s the cost?, exploring the convenience of migrating workflows to cloud, how the cloud can fit business cycles and what are the types of virtualized and hybrid environments to consider.

Dr Alex Connock, Media Business Academic – Oxford-Exeter & NFTS Co-Chair, will host the seminar Future Tech Trends, a look into the future, analysing topics that range from the metaverse to virtual production. And Purminder Gandhu, Technology Transfer & Partnerships Manager – BBC R&D, will oversee the Future of Connectivity, a seminar that will look at how connectivity is evolving from 5G to Leo and how this has had an impact on news contribution.

The second day will start will the panel State of the Nation: Technology, a discussion around the technologies that have driven the distribution of content over the last two years (cloud, remote production, archive and data management, digital transformation) with the participation of LJ.

Rich, TV Presenter & Broadcaster; Olly Strous, Chief Technology Officer – Zinc Media Group; Morwen Williams, Head of UK Operations – BBC News; and Dave Travis, Group Director of Content, Broadcast & Platforms – Sky.

The final panel Remote Post: Do we need Soho anymore? will explore how the pandemic has accelerated the adoption of remote and cloud hosted technology, giving the industry a chance to re-set working arrangements for an all-round healthier productive environment.

Four executives from postproduction houses will discuss the work/life/creative benefits to their production teams, to freelance talent and to clients of working with cloud-based service models: Lisa Collins, Industry Consultant; David Klafkowski, Founder & CEO – Racoon; Zeb Chadfield, Founder & CVO – The Finish Line and Michael McKenna, CEO & Co-founder – Final Pixel.

Whether it is cloud, remote working or 5G, we can’t simple ignore the big impact that technology is having in the way we produce and deliver content these days, and our Tech Theatre will be an incredible opportunity to explore in detail the consequences of this across the industry.
